He is also known by the names Kanhaiya, Shyam, Gopal, Keshav, Dwarkesh or Dwarkadhish, Vasudev etc.  Krishna was an unrelenting Karmayogi, an ideal philosopher, a great man equipped with situated wisdom and divine wealth.  He was born in Dwaparayuga.  

He has been given the place of Yugpurush or Yugavatar, the best male of this era.  The character of Krishna has been elaborately written in Shrimad Bhagwat and Mahabharata composed by Krishna’s contemporary Maharishi Vedvyas.  The Bhagavad Gita is a dialogue between Krishna and Arjuna, a text that is still popular all over the world.

 Ugrasen was the king of Mathura in Dwaparayuga.  His son’s name was Kansa and his daughter’s name was Devaki.  Kansa’s sister Devaki was married to Vasudev.  One day Kansa heard a voice from the sky that he would be killed by Devaki’s eighth son.  To avoid this, Kansa imprisoned Devaki and Vasudev in Mathura and also imprisoned his father and became the king of Mathura himself.
