Historical and Spiritual Significance

Rich in glorious history, tremendous spiritual importance, and with glory bestowed upon the Mahakal Temple, Mahakaleshwar’s linga is said to have been swayambhu, self-manifested in Hindu scriptures as opposed to other Jyotirlingas which are ritually created. In ancient Puranas like the Shiv Purana, Skanda Purana, and so on, it is elaborately described as an important seat of divine power.

Mahakal, which translates as “the Lord of Time,” is said to have dominion over death and life and to grant moksha (liberation) to sincere devotees. Kings of many dynasties, the Mauryas, Guptas, Paramaras, and Scindias, have enriched the temple with restoration and architectural grandeur.

These are extended versions of Rudrabhishek performed by families or groups for well-being, prosperity, and spiritual development. Devotees can pre-book for these ceremonies.

4. Shayan Aarti
